The blast left a crater in the road near the shopping mall. Reports say a posse of policeman who carry vehicle checking could have been the target of the explosion.
Senior police officials have reached the spot. Guwahati Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar and State DGP Kuladhar Saikia also visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
“The blast took place around 8 pm. We are carrying out investigations. The grenade was lobbed from a motorcycle,” Guwahati Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar said.
No militant group has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion although the finger of suspicion is on ULFA(Independent) — the anti-talks faction of the ULFA.
