Three college teachers killed in road mishap

Three lecturers of CKB College, Teok, were killed while their fourth colleague was seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling collided head-on with a fuel-carrying tanker on the National Highway 37 at Balijan near Dergaon Wednesday (Jan 23) night.

The four college teachers were returning to Teok after attending the Dibrugarh University Inter-college Youth Festival at Sarupathar College when the accident took place.

The deceased college lecturers are Dr Ranjit Ranjan Saikia of History department, Keshab Hazarika of Assamese department and Jintumoni Phukan of Political Science department while Narendra Nath Saikia of the Economics department of CKB Bollege was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH).

Meanwhile, the incident has cast a pall of gloom in Jorhat and Golaghat districts and across Assam. Family members, students and teachers of CKB College and people of Teok are in tears as they are yet to come to terms with the incident.

“It’s shocking and very tragic. We are devastated; don’t know how to react. Three of our teachers have died in the accident while another teacher has been seriously injured. It’s a dark day for our college and Teok,” a student of the college, who was unable to hold back her tears, told News Live.
