Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday tweeted that, the NRC is being updated in Assam in accordance with the Assam Accord and the entire process is being carried out as per the directions of the Supreme Court. He assured everyone that the NRC exercise is being carried out in a totally impartial, transparent and meticulous manner and will continue to be so.

The Home Minister’s tweet came following meetings with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Delhi. The meeting was also attended by Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju, Chief Secretary to the government of Assam and DGP of Assam Police Kula Saikia.
Home Minister further tweeted that, “At every stage of the process, adequate opportunity of being heard is given to all persons. The entire process is being conducted according to law and due procedure is being followed.”
Making the stand of the Government of India clear, the Union Home Minister tweeted that the NRC will be published on 30th July is only a draft; after draft publication, adequate opportunity for claims and objections will be available. Only after examining all claims and objections, the final NRC will be published.

He also asked the State government to ensure that law & order is maintained and no one is allowed to take law into their hands and all possible arrangements are made to ensure safety and security for all.
Rajnath Singh also said that “There is no reason for panic or fear. No person will be allowed to be harassed. The Central Government will provide all necessary help to the state government of Assam in this regard.”
