Tezpur woman murder: Police still in dark

GUWAHATI: Though it has been over 24 hours of the brutal killing of a housewife by a gang of dacoits in Tezpur, police is still groping in the dark to nab those involved in the crime. Despite promises of speedy investigation by the top officials, Assam police is still clueless about the murder that took place on Wednesday.

It needs to be mentioned that on the first day of new year, a woman was hacked to death by a gang of two dacoits near Kali Mandir of Porowa under Mahabhairab Police Station.

According to reports, two dacoits entered the house of Ajit Pandit, a small trader by profession at around 3.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The dacoits stabbed Rupa Devi, wife of Ajit with sharp weapons and fled from the scene in a four-wheeler. Though the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, later she succumbed to her injuries.

The dacoits also looted Rs. 3 lakh in cash and a huge amount of gold ornaments.

Angry locals staged a road blockade on Porowa-Napaam road demanding immediate action against the culprits.

The blockade was withdrawn after Sonitpur Additional Superintendent of Police and Executive Magistrate arrived on the spot and promised speedy investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, locals have set a deadline of 3 days to arrest the criminals.
