GUWAHATI/TEZPUR: For those who have to sleep with an empty stomach as they cannot afford meals, an NGO from Tezpur has come ahead with a noble gesture.

Bhairabnagar Yuba Society from Tezpur has started an initiative -‘Triptirey Ekhaj’- where the poor and needy can fill their stomach at just Rs. 5. The inauguration of the scheme was done by Sonitpur Press Club secretary Pankaj Baruah. Triptirey Ekhaj is located at Bhariab Nagar, near Darrang College.

More than hundred persons bought the Rs. 5 rice plate on the first day of the launch.

“Food is a basic need just like our clothes and a shelter. For a person to stay alive, food is necessary. We still have such people in our society who cannot afford a decent meal for themselves. This initiative is for such people. A non-governmental organization thinking about the well-being of fellow humans and starting this kind of initiative indicates a positive trend in our society,” said artiste Jitumoni Devchoudhury.
