Teok doctor lynched: 21 arrested, IMA announces 24-hour stir

GUWAHATI, Sep 1: Jorhat Police Sunday arrested 21 people in connection with the murderous assault on a septuagenarian physician by tea garden workers at Teok Tea Estate.

Dr Deben Dutta, the 73-year-old medical officer of the tea garden, was assaulted by garden workers yesterday (Aug 31) following the death of a co-worker.

He was critically injured and died while being shifted to Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH).

Police arrested the 21 garden workers after a magisterial enquiry was ordered.
Meanwhile, the Assam branch of the Indian Medical Association has called for a “24-hour withdrawal of medical services excluding emergency” from 6 am on Sep 3.
