Telangana tunnel collapse: Eight people trapped, rescue operations underway to save trapped workers; PM Modi dials CM Revanth Reddy, assures help

GUWAHATI, Feb 23: Rescue operations are underway to save the lives of eight people who were trapped after the roof of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapsed near Domalapenta in Telangana on Saturday.

While a total of 51 persons were working on the left-side tunnel when the roof collapsed, 43 workers managed to come out of the tunnel and the remaining eight were trapped.

Reports said two engineers and two machine operators are among the eight trapped.

Emergency teams including National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed for rescue operations while the Indian Army swiftly mobilised its Engineer Task Force (ETF) for rescue operations after the tunnel collapse.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meanwhile, called Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and discussed rescue operations while assuring all help and assistance from the central government in rescuing the trapped people.
