GUWAHATI: Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has expressed the inevitability of an alliance of Congress with Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for the upcoming assembly elections in 2021.
“I am 90 per cent sure about it. I don’t say it is 100 per cent. Because, no formal talks have taken place due to COVID-19.,” said Gogoi.
Congress joined hands with AIUDF in last Rajya Sabha elections in Assam to elect journalist-turned-politician Ajit Kumar Bhuyan to the Upper House of the parliament.
He observed that Congress would not be able to form government single-handedly in the state. Gogoi also appealed All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Ajit Kumar Bhuyan-led Anchalik Gana Morcha to come in the same boat .
“Our doors are open. Because they can’t form the government alone,” the Congress veteran said.
