20 persons involved in smuggling of banned narcotics and sedatives were arrested by RPF personnel during this period
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has been conducting intensive checks and surveillance to prevent smuggling of contraband substances through railway routes. In a series of successful operations from May 1-16, 2025, RPF has apprehended 20 persons involved in smuggling of banned narcotics and sedatives while recovering contraband goods worth more than Rs. 5.35 crore from different locations across the zone.
In a major operation at Guwahati Railway Station, the RPF, Guwahati, in coordination with staff of Panbazar Police Station, apprehended a female passenger based on specific intelligence. The joint team recovered 20,000 YABA tablets, valued at approximately Rs 5 crore, from the possession of the woman aboard Train No. 12516 (Silchar-Coimbatore).
The accused, along with the seized contraband, was handed over to Panbazar Police Station, where a case was registered under the NDPS Act.
Earlier, on May 3, a team of RPF personnel from RPF Post Agartala, in a joint operation with GRP/Agartala, apprehended two individuals at Agartala Railway Station for smuggling Ganja.
The team recovered 22.775 kg of Ganja, valued at approximately Rs. 2,27,750.
The accused were handed over to GRP/Agartala, where a case was registered under the NDPS Act.
These operations reflect the strong resolve and continuous efforts of NFR to curb the menace of narcotic smuggling through railways. RPF of NFR remains committed to maintaining the safety and security of railway passengers and premises, a release issued by NF Railway CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated.
