Sushmita Sen turns 47; let us closely look at her journey from being Miss Universe to the icon she is

PUBLISHED:

Former Miss Universe and B-town actress Sushmita Sen is celebrating her 47th birthday, today, with a lot of love and positivity.

Of all the prominent Bollywood stars that debuted in the 90s, Sushmita Sen is someone who has left a huge impression in the industry through her memorable performances over the years. She is not only a beautiful face on the screen but also a talented artist who entertained cine-goers with her stellar acting and mesmerizing dance performances. Her legacy is not just limited to Bollywood films, she has also made appearances in several Tamil and Bengali movies which were received well by the audiences.

Sushmita became a sensation when she was crowned ‘Miss Universe’ in 1994, and also became the first Indian to win the title. All that recognition paved the way for an acting career in the Hindi film industry. After making her Bollywood debut with the 1996 film Dastak, Sushmita went on to star in numerous Bollywood movies and won a number of awards for her performances. Even after spending more than a couple of decades in limelight, there are still quite a few things that are not very well-known about the actor.

A bold feminist, Sushmita has always believed that she doesn’t need a man to complete her life, and her singlehood is by choice.

She has always voiced her opinions unapologetically, whether it is in her personal life or professional. She refused to comply with the societal norms that dictated that she must be married before having children. When she was only 25, she adopted her first child, Renee, and 10 years later, after a long legal battle, she welcomed her second child Alisah.

Sushmita stepped away from movies for a few years to concentrate on her family life and has now come back on screen with a brilliant performance in the web-series Aarya.

In her late 30s, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Addison’s disease that made her steroid-dependent for the rest of her life. However, it was her sheer willpower and determination that made her bounce back from the illness and how!

In all her warmth and kindness, it’s Sushmita’s fighter attitude that makes her even more inspirational. Happy birthday, queen!
