Sukhoi jet crashes near Tezpur

PUBLISHED:

A Sukhoi fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed at Milanpur near Tezpur around 8:30 pm Thursday evening. The jet blew up into a huge ball of fire after crashing. The two pilots of the Sukhoi jet ejected safely but suffered serious injuries, one of them reportedly losing one of his legs that got severed during the crash.

The injured pilots have been identified as Squadron Leader I Mishra and Wing Commander P Santra.

The two pilots were rushed to the Army Base Hospital in Tezpur where they were being operated upon.

No injures have been reported from the ground.

The Su-30 MKI fighter jet was on a routine training mission when it crashed in the paddy field in the Milanpur area and burst into flames, news agency PTI quoted defence spokesperson Lt Col Harsh Wardhan Pande as saying.
