Storm lashes several parts of Assam within 24 hours

Guwahati: At least seven people have died in storms and lightning strikes within 24 hours at the different places in Assam amid Rongali bihu celebration.

Three people were killed and several were injured in Assam’s Barpeta district as a storm lashed parts of the state on Thursday.

According to the sources, the storm affected fifteen villages in the district, causing damage over 130 houses. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.

In another incident, four women killed in Tingkhong of Dibrugarh district due to storm.

Women were taking shelter under a bamboo plant when it crashed on the victims, according to sources.

The deceased identified as Monika Dhan, Labanya Hor, Ani Kujur and L.Kumari Bhengra

On Friday, following the gusty winds along with heavy rain in Assam, a man died in the Jagun, Tinsukia district after being crushed by a tree.

Furthermore, the India Meteorological Department issued an advisory on April 14 warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya over the next four days.
