A thunderstorm that lashed several parts of Assam today left a trail of destruction and devastation while two persons were killed after they were hit by lightning flashes at Kokrajhar and Kalgachia. There are also reports of around 20 people injured in the storm.
Two persons — a minor student named Swamdwn Basumatary in Kokrajhar and another person identified as Habez Khan in Kalgachia — were killed after a fierce storm ravaged various parts of Western Assam early Wednesday morning. The storm brought down trees and electricity poles and blew away tin roofs of many houses.

On the other hand, another thunderstorm that was accompanied by heavy rains left a trail of devastation in various parts of the State this afternoon. The storm lashed various places in Golaghat, Karbi Anglong and Nagaon districts as gusts brought down trees and electricity poles at various places, disrupting road communication and electricity connection.
Meanwhile, a landslide at Ratachera along the national highway connecting Silchar and Shillong led to disruption of road communication. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the highway as a result of the landslide.
