SSB jawan martyred in Jharkhand cremated with military honours

Assam SSB  jawan Niraj Chetry who was martyred in an encounter with Maoists in Dumka in Jharkhand was cremated with full military honours today (June 4) after his mortal remains were brought to his ancestral village in Assam’s Biswanath district.

Wails from family members, relatives and fellow villagers made the situation even more emotional after the coffin carrying the mortal remains were brought to the brave soldier’s home Monday.

After tributes were paid amid emotional scenes, the mortal remains were consigned to flames with full military honours.

Twenty-six-year-old Chetry was martyred in a fierce gunbattle with Naxals early Sunday (June 2) morning. His family members were devastated with the news, more so since they were planning his marriage.

Four other troopers were also injured in the encounter.

The Assam Government has announced a financial ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of the slain SSB trooper.
