FIFA WC: France-Croatia final in Moscow

PUBLISHED:

France will face Croatia in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2018 after the latter defeated England 2-1 in extra-time at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. The two teams were tied 1-1 at the end of normal time.

Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic scored the winner in the 109th minute to take Croatia into the final of a FIFA world cup for the first time, dashing England’s hopes of reaching the final and aim for world cup glory since their maiden triumph at home in 1966.

Although The Three Lions took the lead in the fifth minute with Kieren Trippier scoring a magical goal from a spot-kick, Ivan Perisic equalized for Croatia in the 68th minute before Mandzukic netted the winner in the second half of extra-time.

France, the 1998 winners, and Croatia will lock horns at the Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday (July 15) while the two losing semi-finalists — Belgium and England — will face each other in the third and fourth place playoff at Saint Petersburg on Saturday (July 14).
