Smriti Irani greets people on Magh Bihu, posts picture with Jaapi

GUWAHATI: Union minister Smriti Irani wished the people of Assam on Magh Bihu, the harvest festival of the North-Eastern State. In the picture that she posted on Instagram, Smriti Irani, clad in a saree and a pretty red shawl, wore a jaapi – a traditional conical hat from Assam, made from tightly woven bamboo or cane.

“Be it a wish for Bihu, Pongal, Uttarayan or simply wishing our loved ones a happy Makar Sankranti, today is the day we give thanks for our bountiful harvest, bear witness to our diverse celebrations, seek blessings and pray for good health and prosperity for all. Utsav Patang ka, Til Gud ka, Khichadi ka… dil se manao..khoob tarakki pao,” Smriti Irani said in the caption of her post.

“Greetings to people of Assam on the auspicious occasion of Magh Bihu. Prayers for peace, prosperity and good health for all,” the union minister also tweeted.
