Sivasagar Police have arrested the two sons of Anu Baruah, the 70-year-old woman who allegedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire, along with their wives amid growing suspicion that the septuagenarian woman could have been murdered.
Police arrested Anu Baruah’s two sons — Angshuman Baruah and Nabajyoti Baruah — along with their two wives after detaining them for questioning.
“They have been arrested and will be produced in court later today. We will seek for their custody,” a police official told News Live.
Incidentally, an FIR was lodged at Gaurisagar Police out-post by a relative of the deceased, who claimed that the body of Anu Baruah bore strangulation-like marks with a cloth wrapped around the neck that led to them suspecting foul play.
Anu Baruah of Duliapar Disial village on the outskirts of Sivasagar town was found dead after she allegedly set herself on fire. The deceased woman, in a suicide note that was later received by police, reportedly blamed her two daughters-in-law for pushing her to take the extreme step.
Police had picked up the two sons of the deceased along with their wives after the incident took place yesterday.
