Sikkim By-polls: SKM’s Aditya Golay wins Soreng-Chakung seat uncontested after SDF candidate pulls out

GUWAHATI, Oct 29: The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) received a major boost after its candidate Aditya Golay, son of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, won from the Soreng-Chakung seat uncontested after Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) candidate Prem Bahadur Bhandari withdrew his candidature today.

Incidentally, the third candidate in fray — Citizen Action Party’s Pobin Hang Subba — was disqualified yesterday after the Election Commission found anomalies in the proposers’ signature.

This will be Aditya’s second term as MLA of Soreng-Chakung. He had won the seat in 2019 with 6,580 votes defeating SDF’s Sancha Raj Subba who polled 6,372 votes.

Following this victory, SKM’s strength in the 32-member Sikkim Assembly rose to 31.
