SI Job Scam: BJP leader Kamal Hazarika detained by Nalbari Police

GUWAHATI: Nalbari Police on Tuesday detained Dharmapur BJP leader Kamal Hazarika for questioning in connection with the Assam Police SI examination paper leak case. Kamal Hazarika is close to Assam Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and reportedly looked after Patowary’s political work in Dharmapur.

Kamal Hazarika is currently being questioned by Nalbari Police at Nalbari Police Station and later today a special team of CID and Assam Police will interrogate him.

Hazarika and Diban Deka used to talk over the phone regularly and the investigating team of CID Assam got this information.

It is to be mentioned that Diban Deka, one of the prime accused in the Assam Police SI scam, who was produced in a Guwahati court on Monday (October 12), was sent to 14 days of judicial custody as CID Assam did not ask for his further custody.

Former IPS official PK Dutta the mastermind who was on the run was arrested from the Kakarbhitta area along the Indo-Nepal border. Later on Tuesday, a court in Guwahati sent former deputy inspector general (DIG) of police PK Dutta to 14-day judicial custody

The written test for Assam Police sub-inspector (UB) was cancelled after a leakage of question papers on social media on Wednesday(September 20).

Due to public pressure and zero-tolerance against corruption motto of Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal an enquiry was immediately ordered and investigations started.

The investigation led by the Additional director general of police (ADGP) for law and order GP Singh resulted in arrests and detention of several individuals that include candidates, Assam Police officials and small-time politicians.
