SHOCKING LAPSE! COVID-19 positive Bongaigaon health workers not home quarantined after tests; had reported to work, met co-workers

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati, May 1: After four persons, two of them healthcare workers, tested positive for COVID-19 in Bongaigaon, there have been allegations of some serious lapses that could threaten the lives of countless other people. A group of ANMs of Bongaigaon PHC sub-centre have alleged that Anupam Thakuria and Babita Basfor, the two health workers who tested positive yesterday, were not told to home quarantine themselves after their swab samples were collected during random testing but were asked to report to work.

Claiming that it was utterly irresponsible on the part of Bongaigaon Block PHC authorities to show such callous attitude, the ANMs alleged that although they tried to raise the issue, their concerns were not given much importance.

“We are working with a view to giving our 100 per cent despite the challenges and the threat the virus poses. But it’s a matter of great concern that there have been serious lapses. You will be shocked to learn that the two health workers who tested positive were not home quarantined after their samples were taken but were told to report to work. Many of us have come into contact with them,” an ANM said in an exclusive chat with News Live.

“Due to the callous attitude of the Bongaigaon Block PHC and district administration authorities, we might be threatening the lives of many others since we have been administering injections and vaccines to even mothers and babies,” the ANM further alleged.

She also levelled several serious allegations against the Bongaigaon SDMO, accusing him of even flouting home quarantine norms and protocols besides being allegedly close to a Nizamuddin Markaz returnee.

The SDMO, whose child had returned from Kota, dis not allow health officials to hand a Home Quarantine banner in front of his house in gross contravention of applied rules and protocols.
