GUWAHATI: Union home minister Amit Shah has asked Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to take legal and constitutional advice on the report submitted by the high-level committee on the implementation of the Assam Accord’s clause 6.

The development came at a meeting among home minister Shah, CM Sonowal and Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at the home minister’s residence in New Delhi.

“The union home minister has asked the chief minister to review the report by legal and constitutional experts. Then it will be sent to the centre after the legal examination at the state level,” Dr. Himanta Sarma said after the meeting.

“He (Shah) assured that centre will back Assam’s plea for verification of 20 per cent applications of NRC in the districts bordering Bangladesh and 10 per cent applications in others,” added sarma.
