GUWAHATI, Feb 3: Batting sensation Abhishek Sharma became the new poster boy of Indian cricket after his hurricane knock of 135 in just 54 balls helped India demolish and decimate England by a massive 150 runs in the fifth and final T20 international at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai yesterday.
The young India batter is receiving plaudits from current stars as well as legends after his explosive knock caught the attention of the entire cricketing world.
Team India coach Gautam Gambhir, who was himself an opener and a southpaw like the Punjab cricketer, lauded his knock saying he has not seen a better T20 innings other that the one that unfolded before his eyes yesterday.
“I haven’t seen a better T20 hundred against bowlers who are bowling at 140-150 kmph consistently,” Gambhir was quoted as saying to the broadcasters after the match.
England captain Jos Butler said Abhishek Sharma’s innings was “one of the best”.
“The best T20 innings I have watched,” KL Rahul wrote on his Instagram story.

Masterblaster Sachin Tendulkar also congratulated the opening batter on his exploits, posting a video on ‘X’ while Irfan Pathan wrote “Bebaak player, Bebaak shatak! Abhishek sharma”.
Even industrialist Mukesh Ambani who was watching the match at the Wankhede was seen standing and clapping as Abhishek punished the English bowlers.
