Sensational: ISIS flags with ‘IS Ne’ scribbled on them hoisted in Goalpara

Close on the heels of a youth from Assam’s Jamunamukh town in Hojai joining Kashmiri terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen, as many as six flags of global terror outfit ISIS were flown in Goalpara town sending the security apparatus in the State into a tizzy.

The black ISIS-like flags with ‘IS Ne’ written across it with some Arabic inscriptions were hoisted at the old court building situated very close to Golapara Town Police out-post.

The black flags were spotted early in the morning by people out for morning walk. After the police were informed, the flags were pulled down and taken away.

“I was on a morning walk when I saw the black flags with Arabic inscriptions and ‘IS NE’ written on them. I brought them down and handed them over to the police,” an eyewitness said.

All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, meanwhile, lambasted the government over what he termed growing fundamentalist activities in Assam and demanded immediate measures to curb foil any design to create unrest in the State.

“It’s a very serious issue. The Government has failed to act despite intelligence warnings about growing activities of fundamentalist outfits in the State. I demand the government to take strict action so as to nip the threat from fundamentalist and jehadi forces in the bud,” he said.

It’s exactly not known who had hoisted the ISIS flags that too very close to the Golapara Town Police out-post. Police sources said they are taking the issue very seriously amid growing jehadi threats and reports of many youths, mainly from Barpeta, other western Assam towns and some parts of Nagaon and Morigaon districts, joining Islamic fundamentalist outfits.
