GUWAHATI, Oct 16: The crackdown on corruption in government offices by the Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma-led State Government continues with Vigilance & Anti-Corruption sleuths arresting a senior Excise Department officer from Janata Bhawan today (Oct 16).
Partha Hazarika, section officer of the Excise Department, was caught red-handed accepting Rs 24,500 from a person as bribe to issue license for opening a bar.
Hazarika, the complainant said, had demaned Rs 1 lakh and had already taken Rs 45,000 in the first installment.
The arrested officer was accepting the Rs 24,500 as the second installment of bribe when he was arrested by Vigilance & Anti-Corruption sleuths near the main gate of Janata Bhawan.
