Senior AGP leader Biraj Sarma, who was also a minister in the Prafulla Kumar Mahanta governments, passed away at the Neemcare Hospitals in Guwahati at 2:30 pm today (Jan 15).
Sarma was one of the signatories of the Assam Accord along with Prafulla Mahanta and Brigu Phukan.

He represented the East Guwahati constituency in the Assam Assembly.
Apart from the AGP, he was also popular in political circles cutting across party lines.
His death has cast a pall of gloom with the AGP mourning his death and terming it an irreparable loss for the party.
