Guwahati: Renowned advocate Nilay Dutta passed away after he suffered a heart attack at Coorg in Karnataka in the wee hours today.
He was in Coorg on vacation. He was the advocate general of Arunachal Pradesh, a member of the Assam Law Commission, an adviser to All Assam Lawyers’ Association, and a cricket umpire, a referee and an administrator. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and APCC president Bhupen Borah, among others, have condoled the death of the legal luminary.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has condoled the demise of renowned advocate Niloy Dutta, and described it as an irreparable loss to society. Sarma offered his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Taking to his Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Assam has lost one of the brightest lawyers, Nilay Dutta, who also had significantly contributed in many other fields including sports administration. His demise has created a huge void difficult to be filled up. Offer my deepest condolences to his family and well-wishers.”
