SEBA Assistant Secretary Hemanta Deka caught red-handed taking bribe

GUWAHATI: In a five-hour-long operation, anti-corruption sleuths on Friday arrested assistant secretary of the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) Hemanta Deka while taking bribe. Deka was caught red-handed taking bribe of Rs. 8,000 from a complainant, Shiv Kumar Bhujel, for rectifying his name in the marksheet of his daughter’s matriculation certificate.

“He took Rs. 8 thousand from me to rectify my name in my daughter’s HSLC certifciate. First he demanded Rs. 10 thousand. Later he agreed at Rs. 8 thousand,” said the complainant.

The anti-corruption sleuths also seized many important documents from the arrested assistant secretary.
