GUWAHATI: The swearing-in ceremony of the new Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam witnessed a sea of humanity at Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.
United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) president Pramod Boro took oath in the presence of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and Assam minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma along with a host of dignitaries. He took oath in the Bodo language. Assam chief secretary Jishnu Barua administered the oath.

People from far and near of all the four districts in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) gathered at Greenfield to witness the historic moment. Pramod Boro has replaced Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary who had remained the CEM for three consecutive terms since 2005.
Pramod Boro, former president of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) was one of the signatories of the Bodo Peace Accord on January 27 in 2020. He left the students’ body to join the UPPL. Boro led the party in the BTC election as its president. He won from Goibari and Koklabari constituencies of BTC.
Expressing his gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support, Boro wrote on Facebook, “I am humbled to see sea of people during our swearing in ceremony today at Bodofa Nwgwr. As promised, with your blessings we will begin the work for transforming BTR from today.
Thank you all so much.”
“We hope BTR will march ahead in the path of progress and peace under the leadership of Pramod Boro,” said a man from Udalguri who was present at the swearing-in ceremony.
The family members of Boro were also present in the event.
“It is like-‘Dil garden garden.’ I am so happy,” said Parul Bharali Boro, wife of the new BTC chief.
She also thanked the voters and well-wishers of Pramod Boro for their support and love.
“I don’t know much about politics. I hope he (Pramod Boro) will never break the faith of the people. He will fulfil his promises,” she said.
