GUWAHATI: Union home minister Amit Shah addressed two separate rallies in Assam’s Kokrajhar and Nalbari which witnessed massive turnout.

A sea of humanity gathered at Green Field in Kokrajhar under the Bodoland Territorial Region as Shah attended the 1st anniversary celebrations of the signing of the historic BTR Accord.

Speaking on the occasion, the home minister asserted that prime minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are committed to preserve the political rights, culture and language of the Bodo people.

The minister said that due to the efforts of PM Narendra Modi, a new era of development and peace has prevailed in Bodoland Territorial Region.

“PM Modi had initiated the process to end insurgency in the Northeast by signing the Bodo Peace Accord. Efforts were made for settlement for Bru-Reang issue and 700 members of 8 armed groups laid down arms,” he said.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new India and Atmabharat vision will be not ended without new Bodo land and Atmabharat Bodo territory,” Shah said.

The minister said that once the region was known for terror and bloodshed, this area will now become the most developed area of the state.

With the Bodo Peace Accord, the Prime Minister gave the message — wherever there is unrest in the Northeast, negotiate and pave the way for peace, he added.

He criticised Congress for not fulfilling any promises for the BTR region.

Only BJP, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, can make Assam corruption-free, terrorism-free and pollution-free, Shah said.

Later, Shah also addressed the party workers at Vijay Sankalp Samaroh in Nalbari. The BJP rally in Nalbari too witnessed massive footfalls.

“Only BJP can solve the biggest problem of Assam—floods. We have made Assam free from bullets and agitations. Give 5 years more to BJP and we will make Assam free from flood too,” Amit Shah claimed.

With a two-day visit, union home minister Amit Shah had arrived in Guwahati in the early hours of Saturday.

Shah’s visit has emerged as significant for the political arena of the state ahead of the forthcoming Assam assembly elections.
