SDRF continues search operations at Disangmukh

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel and divers resumed search operations at Disangmukh in Sivasagar district but have failed to rescue the two young college girls who slipped into the Disang river yesterday (Dec 16), reportedly while clicking selfies.

Anjali Chhetri and Arati Chhetri, related to each other as cousins, had come to the river bank for some religious rituals along with other family members when they slipped into the river while clicking photographs and selfies.

While Anjali is a higher secondary second year student of Disangmukh Junior College, Arati hails from Philobari in Tinsukia district and had come to Afala to attend a marriage ceremony.

“The marriage got over on Friday and we had some puja yesterday and had come to the river bank for some rituals. Anjali and Arati were clicking photographs and selfies along with another cousin brother when they slipped into the river,” a family member said.

The incident took place around 10 am yesterday.

SDRF divers and other officials from Sivasagar and Jorhat districts launched a search operation after they were informed about the incident. After carrying out a massive search on the river yesterday, they resumed their search and rescue operation early today (Dec 17) morning but have failed to either rescue the two girls or recover their bodies.
