Guwahati Police Thursday said they have piked up some clues in their probe into the sensational robbery at Satgaon locality in Guwahati and are hopeful of cracking the case very soon. It may be mentioned here that a four-member group of motorcycle-borne miscreants had robbed a jeweller of nearly Rs 35 lakh yesterday (Feb 20) night while he was returning home from his shop.
Prasenjit Modak, proprietor of Alaka Jewellers, was waylaid by four motorcycle-borne miscreants who attacked him and looted Rs 2.4 lakh and gold ornaments worth over Rs 32 lakh.
The miscreants, Modak said, threatened with a gun and later made good their escape with the cash and ornaments. Police, however, said that the firearm the robbers used was not real but a toy.
Incidentally, Modak used to take home all the cash and jewellery home everyday after thieves had broke into his shop and looted cash and ornaments around two years ago.
