Sanskritik Mahasangram to transform into a platform to showcase inherent potentials of state’s youth: Assam CM

In a move to provide a platform to the talents across the state, the Assam Government is organising the Assam Sanskritik Mahasangram.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday unveiled the logo, theme song, memento, jingle, certificate and judges’ kit for the Mahasangram at a programme held at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati and expressed hope that the Mahasangram will turn into a potential platform to showcase the inherent potential of the youth.

Notably, the Sanskritik Mahasangram to be organised by the Cultural Affairs department will start on October 25, 2023, and continue till February 7, 2024.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarma said that the State government is trying to build and promote a cultural empowerment narrative to expedite the development of all sections of the people of the state.

“This Assam Sanskritik Mahasangram is being organised in a bid to give an exposure to the inherent talents and give an impetus to the holistic personality development of the youth,” Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The Chief Minister said that around 10 lakh participants from across the state will participate in the Mahasangram in around three thousand venues.

“The state government has earmarked Rs 36 crore for the event,” he said.

Assam CM also asked the organisers not to seek any donations from anybody for the programme.
He also instructed MLAs to use 10 per cent of their local area development fund for the Mahasangram.

The competitions will be held in three categories. Group A will feature participants from 12 to 18 years, Group B will feature participants from 19 to 24 years and Group C will feature from 25 to 35 years. The participants will be presenting Jyoti Sangeet, Bishnu Rabha Sangeet, Bhupendra Sangeet, Rabindra Sangeet, Bihu Dance (group), Folk Dance (group) from Assam at Gaon Panchayat, Ward, V.C.D.C., M.A.C. level.

The first, second and third winner from these levels will compete at the Legislative Assembly Constituency.

Likewise, the winners at the LAC level will compete at the district level and the grand finale will be held at Guwahati where all winners of the district will compete in the state-level competition.

The winners will be awarded with certificates. Mementos and cash rewards will also be given from the LAC level onwards.

Chief Minister Sarma further called upon everybody to render cooperation for the successful conduct of the event as it has the potential to give exposure to several talents across the state who can rise and make their presence felt in the state.

Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, PHE Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, Handloom and Textile Minister UG Brahma, Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan, MP and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Pabitra Margherita, Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The Chief Minister on the occasion also handed over the Judges’ Kit to veteran artists Jina Raj Kumari, Bipul Baruah, and Somnath Borah who will be rendering their services as judges in the programme.
