GUWAHATI, Jan 14: Wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson could be axed from the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament, which is scheduled to start from February 19, will take place in Pakistan while India will play all their matches in Dubai.
The final, if India qualifies, will also be held in Dubai.
Samson was retained in the Indian squad for the five-match T20Is series against England but might not make it to the ODI squad for the ICC tournament, a report by news agency PTI stated.
The report further stated that KL Rahul who had done wicketkeeping in ODI World Cup 2023 will play as a as a specialist batter in the Champions Trophy while Rishabh Pant will be India’s first-choice wicketkeeper.
However, should he continue with his recent T20 form in the series against England, his name could be given a second thought, another report stated.
The wicket-keeper batter had last played an ODI for India on December 21, 2023. In that match against South Africa, he went on to score a century.
