GUWAHATI, Jan 21: Mohammed Shariful Islam Shahzad alias Vijay Das (30), the Bangladeshi national arrested on charges of attacking actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra home early Friday morning, had entered India through the Dawki border in Meghalaya seven months ago before proceeding to Bengal and then travelling to Mumbai.
Reports said that he stayed a few days in West Bengal where he used the Aadhar Card of a person of the State to get a SIM card which police found.
Police said the SIM card Mohammed Shariful was using was registered in the name of a person named Khukumoni Jahangir Sekha of West Bengal, news agency PTI reported quoting an official.
The official, the PTI report further stated, said he also tried to get an Aadhaar card for himself but could not.
“He came to Kolkata first and then to Mumbai. He was not aware that it was the house of some film star. He just entered the house with the intention of robbery,” Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is reported to have said.
Mumbai Police believe the accused entered the residence of Saif Ali Khan with the intention of theft and that preliminary information suggested that several cases were registered against the accused in Bangladesh.
