Sahitya Sabha’s Prasanta Biswa Sarma memorial building inaugurated

GUWAHATI: A new building in the memory of Late Prasanta Biswa Sarma was inaugurated today at the premises of Kamrup district unit of Asom Sahitya Sabha.

The newly-constructed building in the name of well-known author and a brilliant engineer Prasanta Biswa Sarma was inaugurated by Assamese language scholar Prof. Ramesh Pathak, renowned mathematician Dr. Bijay Krishna Dev Sarma, Late Prasanta Biswa Sarma’s elder brother Diganta Biswa Sarma and newly-elected vice-president of Asom sahitya Sabha as well as Prasanta Biswa Sarma’s mother Mrinalini Devi.

The Prasanta Biswa Sarma memorial building has been constructed with the initiatives and planning of Pride East Entertainments Private Limited’s chief managing director Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.

On the other hand, an anthology of Prasanta Biswa Sarma’s writings was also released in the event. The anthology titled ‘Moi Ak Bidyut Kona’ comprises articles, poems and stories written in English, Assamese and Hindi by late Sarma.

“The unexpected death of Prasanta Biswa Sarma is an irreparable loss to Assamese language and culture. His memories will remain alive till Asom Sahitya Sabha exists,” said former professor of Cotton College Dr. Ramesh Pathak.

Remembering her son, newly-elected vice-president of Asom Sahitya Sabha Mrinalini Devi said “He will be in my heart forever. I will come and sit in this building everyday to see my son. He will inspire me to work for the society.”

Meanwhile, Diganta Biswa Sarma recalled his younger brother on an emotional note, “We were one, we are still one and we will remain one. We five brothers are united in a different world of Consciousness. Therefore, he is still alive among us.”

On the same day, Neha Agarwala memorial conference hall at Bhagawati Prasad Baruah Bhavan was donated to Asom Sahitya Sabha by Lohia Charitable Trust. The conference hall was donated by Kailash Lohia in the memory of his daughter Neha Agarwala.
