Rs. 12 lakh ‘looted’ from businessman at gunpoint in Morigaon

GUWAHATI: A gang of armed robbers allegedly ‘looted’ ₹12 lakh at gunpoint from a Morigaon businessman. The incident took place on Wednesday night when the businessman, Yarup Hussain was coming from Morigaon.

According to the victim the robbers were in police uniform and came in a Tata Sumo car bearing registration number AS01 MA3734 and looted the money from him at gunpoint and fled away.

Meanwhile, Assam Police have arrested 10 people in this connection and are interrogating them.

According to the Superintendent of Police Morigaon district Swapnanil Deka, “Around 7 p.m in the evening Yarup and his friend were coming from Morigaon to make a payment of ₹12 lakh to a road contractor. They were stopped by two men in a motor bike who were in police uniform. In the meantime, one of the robbers claiming to be from the security forces made a call to other members of his group. Within 10 minutes, 5 people came in a Tata Sumo and took Yarup and his friend along with them. Out of the 5 people, 3 were in camouflage uniform. The robbers took away the money from them and left them near Kopili Bridge, Morigaon.”

“After receiving the information we rushed to the spot and started with the investigation at Jajari and recovered the Tata Sumo and following the leads we arrested 10 people in this connection. Three people are still on the run and we are trying to trace them. We already have all the proof and details of the robbery but we are waiting for the other 3 to get arrested. The rest of them have already accepted the crime,” said the SP.
