RPF constable shoots dead 4 people on Jaipur-Mumbai Express train

A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable identified as Chetan Kumar shot dead four people on board Jaipur-Mumbai Central SF Express (12956) on Monday (July 31) morning.

The victims included three passengers and a RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI).

The incident happened at around 5 am on Monday between Vapi and Borivali Station in Mumbai.

The accused constable has been arrested.

Reportedly, the incident took place on the B5 coach of of the train.

According to a statement by the police, “It was reported on train no 12956 at 5:23 on July 31 that there had been a firing in B5 coach. It was confirmed that CT Chetan, on escort duty, had fired on the escort incharge ASI Tika Ram. The train has arrived at Borivali Station and, as per advance information, casualties of 3 civilians have also been reported, in addition to ASI. Sr DSC BCT is on the way to the site.”

“The said constable has been caught. DCP North GRP has been informed. Detailed report to follow,” the police statement added.

Reportedly, the constable opened fire using his official weapon and after killing his senior, the constable went to another bogie and shot dead three passengers.

The accused got down from the train at Dahisar station by pulling the emergency chain after the incident, however, he was detained by the Mumbai Railway Police at the Bhayandar station.

The reason for the firing is not clear yet, we are investigating it, an official said.

The official informed that the families of the victims are being contacted and the ex-gratia amount will be given to them.
