Rahul Dravid said Riyan Parag was promoted to the Number 3 position to give him more time at the crease
GUWAHATI, March 29: Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid heaped praise on Riyan Parag and said he is among the best batters in the Royals team.
Dravid, who was speaking to reporters ahead of Royal’s crucial tie against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati tomorrow (March 30), justified Riyan’s promotion up the batting order to No. 3 this season, a notch ahead of the No. 4 position in which he batted in IPL 2024 and scored so many runs, saying he was promoted so as to give him more time at the crease.
“Riyan is one of our best batsman and we want to give him more balls as we possibly can. Twenty overs is a very short time and the more balls Riyan Parag bats for us the better it is for us,” Dravid said in the media briefing ahead of tomorrow’s game.
Dravid said the team management will assess Riyan’s performance at No. 3 and if required he will be moved to his No. 4 position.
Dravid was responding to questions on why the Assam batter was promoted up the order and why was he not allowed to bat in his earlier position of No. 4.
It maybe mentioned here that Riyan was among the standout performers for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL last season, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer with 573 runs in 16 matches, including four half-centuries, batting at No. 4.
Meanwhile, the stage is all set for the mouthwatering clash between Rajasthan Royals and CSK at ACA Stadium in Barsapara, Guwahati, tomorrow.
Rajasthan Royals will hope to register their first victory of the season tomorrow after having lost both their opening matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Chennai outfit will, on the other hand, aim to put the ignominy of their defeat against RCB in Chennai yesterday and get back to winning ways yet again.
The match will begin at 7:30 pm.
