Rhino kills forest Dept staff in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park

GUWAHATI: A forest department staff succumbed to his injuries following an attack by a rhino in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Moheshwar Hazarika, a game watcher of the park.

“Shri Moheshwar Hazarika (Game Watcher) was attacked by a rhino yesterday while he was on duty & he succumbed to the injury on spot. Behind the conservational success of kaziranga, there are heroes who laid their lives. Rest in peace, the brave heart,” stated Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve authorities in a tweet.

On the other hand, French minister for Ecological Transition (Ministre de la Transition écologique) Barbara Pompili reached Kaziranga on Saturday.

The French minister is on a five-day visit to India.

Minister Barbara Pompili and an 11-member team visited different projects in Kaziranga undertaken by the French Development Agency.

The French Development Agency has been working in Assam since 2012, providing financial and technical assistance to Assam Project on Forest and Biodiversity Conservation (APFBC) to support the state’s biodiversity conservation efforts, sustainable and participatory management of forests and the creation of alternate livelihoods for forest-dependent communities, sources said.
