Remembering Sushant Singh Rajput on his first Death Anniversary: From Engineering college to Bollywood


Guwahati: The name  Sushant Singh Rajput needs no introduction. He was one of the finest actor that bollywood has seen so far.  He made a name for himself in the tinsel town with his talent and good looks. But his death on June 14, 2020, shook the world. It was impossible for his millions of fans to believe that the actor was not among them.

Sushant Singh Rajput was born on January 21, 1986, in Patna in the state of Bihar to Krishna Kumar Singh and Usha Singh. His father is a retired technical officer and worked at Bihar State Handloom Corporation in Patna. He was the youngest of five siblings and had the nickname Gulshan. One of his four sisters Mitu Singh was a state-level cricket player. He attended the St. Karen’s High School in Patna. His family moved to Delhi following his mother’s death in 2002 where Rajput completed his schooling for intermediate studies in Kulachi Hansraj Model School

Rajput was reportedly an avid reader who was deeply interested in astrophysics and won the National Olympiad in Physics. He secured admission in the Delhi College of Engineering (later renamed Delhi Technological University) to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering degree in mechanical engineering. According to Rajput, he did not have any interest in engineering but his family gave him no option which left him dissatisfied. He instead wanted to become an astronaut and later an air force pilot but was also interested in Bollywood, being a fan of Shah Rukh Khan.

Rajput started his career after dropping out of his engineering course at the Delhi College of Engineering and entering the theatre industry in Mumbai. 

Sushant Singh Rajput, who made his acting debut with Star Plus TV show Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil (2008), shot to fame as Manav in Zee TV’s popular soap opera Pavitra Rishta.

Sushant made his transition to Bollywood with Kai Po Che (2013). In a career spanning over a decade, Sushant became a part of several hit projects like M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath, Sonchiriya and Chhichhore among more.

For his performance in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story , he received his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor and became the winning nomination at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Apart from acting, he was the founder of a nonprofit organisation and has been credited as the co-founder of a technological startup.

He was last seen in Dil Bechara which was released on OTT platform after his demise. His performance received all the positive response and made the whole nation feel his absence.  

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra apartment on June 14. A domestic help informed the police and preliminary set of investigations followed. Condolences start pouring in for Sushant Singh Rajput as the news of actor’s death shocks the nation fighting the pandemic.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s last rites are performed at Pawan Hans crematorium. Actress Kangana Ranaut refuses to accept SSR’s death as natural by declining to acknowledge the late actor as a “mentally weak” person. Sushant’s brother-in-law OP Singh demands probe into the incident while suspecting some foul play.

 Sushant Singh Rajput’s former girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty records her statement at Bandra Police Station in the death case. The actress had earlier deleted all posts featuring SSR except for the one in which she wished late actor on his birthday.

The social media gets filled with debates on nepotism and allegations on the stalwarts of Hindi film industry – from filmmaker Karan Johar , actor Salman Khan to producer Ekta Kapoor and others – ranging from favouritism and even culture of drug abuse. Protests follow in parts of the country, apparently demanding justice for SSR.

The late actor’s family has alleged that Rhea Chakraborty, Rajput’s girlfriend, had abetted the alleged suicide of the actor and registered a case against her in Patna. The case was later transferred to the CBI.

The case is under trail and many people has been arrested till in connection with SSR’s death and the drug syndicate that has been in the Bollywood since ages.
