Today is the 96th birth anniversary of Assam’s legendary bard Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Today the people of Assam are remembering Bhupen Da’s musical legacy and celebrating it through his immortal songs.
Today several programmes are being held throughout the length and breadth of Assam. A special programme is going to be held later today by the Assam government at the Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra at Jalukbari in Guwahati which is to be attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Apart from this, a special memorial programme would also be held at the Dighalipukhuri by the All Assam Students Union in the evening. On the other hand, a special programme would also be held at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra later today.
Meanwhile, people are holding programmes all over the state to mark the birth anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika. People in Mangaldoi took out a procession today morning to mark the occasion and sang Bhupen Hazarika’s immortal songs as a mark of tribute.
And people in North Guwahati also celebrated the occasion and paid homage to the legacy of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. People gathered and sang songs and paid tribute to Bhupen Hazarika to mark his birth anniversary.
Moreover, on the 96th Birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna late Bhupen Hazarika, Google paid tribute with an artistic Google Doodle. The Google Doodle shows the late Hazarika playing the harmonium, and the illustration has been created by Mumbai-based guest artist Rutuja Mali.
