After 17 years, Tarun Gogoi to bid adieu to Koinadhora

PUBLISHED:

Former three-term Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi will finally bid adieu to his official residence of 17 years. Yes, the veteran Congress leader, who had been chief minister for three consecutive terms from 2011, will vacate what had been the chief minister’s official residence perched atop the Koinadhora Hills tomorrow.

Tarun Gogoi will move to a sprawling new bungalow in the ministers’ colony tomorrow (July 27). His new official residence has already been decked up for tomorrow with a religious ritual also organized for his moving into the new residence.

The octogenarian Congress leader took one last stroll along the garden today (July 26), reminiscing the good as well as bad days he had spent at Koinadhora. Although the former chief minister appeared somewhat emotional, he did not miss the opportunity to take a dig at chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, questioning as to whether he will stay at the Koinadhora residence after the Gogois vacate it.

“There have been some great memories associated with this house. Now that the new house that has been assigned to me is ready for occupation, I will vacate my residence of 17 years tomorrow,” Gogoi said.

“Let’s see if Sarbananda Sonowal will come over and stay here after I leave. I don’t think he will leave the luxury of the Brahmaputra Guest House and come here. He has a penchant for things that are luxurious,” the three-term chief minister added.

Tarun Gogoi had stepped into the bungalow at Koinadhora Hills in after the Congress stormed to power defeating the AGP in the assembly elections of 2001 and he became chief minister. Now that the veteran Congress leader will finally be saying goodbye to ‘his Koinadhora home’, he will surely cherish many a moment of the days spent at Koinadhora in the days to come.
