Kalash Yatra | People pay homage to Atal Bihari Vajpayee

People paid homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Guwahati, Silchar, Dibrugarh and Dhubri where his ashes will be immersed at 5 pm today (Aug 23).

The urn carrying the former PM’s ashes were brought to Guwahati yesterday by a delegation of Assam BJP led by State unit president Ranjeet Kumar Dass after they were handed over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah at an event in New Delhi Wednesday (Aug 23) morning.

The BJP has coined the immersion of ashes of the former Prime Minister as “Atal Kalash Yatra” with the party leadership asking all ministers and lawmakers to participate in the Kalash Yatra in their respective States.

After the urn containing the ashes were brought to the State BJP head office in Hengerabari in a garlanded and decorated truck that was followed by thousands of party leaders and activists led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State president Ranjeet Dass, it was kept at the Karbi Sangha near the party office for the night.

Portions of the ashes were taken to Silchar, Dibrugarh and Dhubri where they will be immersed.

Meanwhile, in Guwahati, the procession with the ashes of the former Prime Minister has already begun its journey to the banks of the Brahmaputra where they will be immersed at the Sukreswar Ghat at 5 pm today (Aug 23).

Chief Minister Sonowal and State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Das will immerse the ashes in Guwahati, minister Topon Kumar Gogoi in Dibrugarh, Bhabesh Kalita in Dhubri while ministers Ranjit Dutta and Sum Ronghang will immerse Vajpayee’s ashes at the Barak river in Silchar.
