After showing improvement over the last two day, the flood situation in Assam has reversed with more areas being affected by the rising waters in several rivers in the State on Sunday. Vast tracts of land in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts have been freshly inundated, taking the number of affected districts to six.

According to, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report, the flood-affected districts were Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Hojai, Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj. Vast tracts of land in Lakhimpur have been inundated by the overflowing water of Subansiri and Jiadhal river.
On the other hand, the three districts of Barak Valley- Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj, have been severely affected by the floods. Karimganj is the worst-hit district with 1,55,792 people affected, the ASDMA said.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is currently on a visit to these areas to review the situation. CM Sonowal said that there is no shortage of fund for flood affected people and for their rehabilitation works. The Chief Minister has directed local authorities in Barak valley to review flood relief measures.
