Ensure NRC is 100% foreigner free: AGP

PUBLISHED:

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), alliance partner of the BJP-led ruling Government, Monday demanded of the government to ensure that the final NRC as well as the draft is made 100 per cent foreigner free and that NRC authorities should, if required, conduct a suo-moto scrutiny of the final draft that was released on July 30.

A delegation of the AGP comprising party leaders and Assam ministers Keshab Mahanta, and Phani Bhushan Choudhury, and former MLA Kamala Kalita and ex-Rajya Sabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya met Assam NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela and expressed concern over the reported entry of names of alleged Bangladeshi nationals in the draft NRC.

“We want that the NRC be made 100% foreigner-free. NRC authorities should conduct a suo-moto scrutiny of the draft and allay fears of Bangladeshi nationals allegedly getting their names enrolled in the final NRC draft,” AGP leader and Assam Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta told NEWS LIVE.

On the other hand, BJP legislator Ashok Singhal, too, expressed serious fears that illegal Bangladeshi migrants have been able to get their names enrolled in the NRC draft.
