‘Construction of Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge to begin in March’

PUBLISHED:

Construction work of the much-talked-about bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati will begin in March. This announcement has been made by Assam Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a campaign meeting in North Guwahati.

The decision to construct the six-lane road-only bridge connecting Pan Bazaar in Guwahati and North Guwahati was announced by the Assam Finance Minister in his budget speech earlier this year. The decision was part of a 14-year-old plan that, incidentally, was confined to pen and paper.

The bridge will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,950 crore, a major chunk of which will be funded by BRICS New Development Bank after the Finance Ministry cleared external funding for the proposed bridge.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, meanwhile, continued his tirade against the AGP while also coming down heavily on the Congress and AIUDF terming the two parties the bitterest enemies of the BJP.

Apart from addressing a massive rally at North Guwahati, he also addressed another party meeting in Suwalkuchi which also falls in his home constituency Jalukbari and appealed people to vote for BJP candidates in Wednesday’s elections.
