Col. Manoranjan Goswami passes away

Noted columnist, political analyst and author Colonel (Retd) Manoranjan Goswami, father of well-known journalist and editor-in-chief of Republic TV Arnab Goswami, passed away in Mumbai after prolonged illness.

Colonel Goswami passed away around 12:45 am early Friday in Mumbai, a statement issued by Arnab Goswami stated.

The mortal remains will be brought to Guwahati tomorrow (Nov 10) and the cremation will take place at the Bhootnath crematorium.

Colonel Goswami, a retired Army officer, was a vocal political commentator who appeared in Television talk shows and a regular columnist at several Guwahati-based dailies.

Meanwhile, people from various walks of life, including political leaders and journalists, have condoled Colonel Goswami’s death.

“Saddened by the demise of Col. Manoranjan Goswami a noted writer and social worker. He has authored over 150 short stories. He was associated with various organizations like Rotary Club, Patriotic Forum of India and Bharat Vikash Parishad,” Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu tweeted.

Assam Finance, Health, PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also condoled Colonel Manoranjan Goswami’s death and offered his condolences to the bereaved family members.

“My heartfelt condolences to Arnab Goswami & family on the sad demise of his father Colonel Manoranjan Goswami, whom I’ve known as a wonderful human being. A brilliant commentator, Col Goswami was a strong voice on social & political issues.
