Boats capsize at Goalpara, Kalgachia; minor missing

PUBLISHED:

Close on the heels of the incident of a boat capsizing on the Brahmaputra near the Ashwaklanta temple on Sep 5 in which at least four people lost their lives with a couple more still missing, there have been two more incidents of boat capsize in Assam. While a mechanized country boat overturned at the Beki river at Kalgachia in Barpeta district, another country boat capsized at Rakhal Dubi near Goalpara in which a minor was reportedly swept away by strong water currents.

Both accidents took place late Monday (Sep 10) evening.

The mechanized country boat that sank at Rakhal Dubi was reportedly overcrowded. However, except an 18-month-old minor named Mobassira Khatun, the other passengers were rescued. The strong water currents swept away the minor who has not been rescued so far and neither have SDRF personnel recovered her body.

The missing minor hailed from Pakhiraguri in Krishnai.
