Rajya Sabha polls: BJP awards ticket to Kanad Purkayastha ~ The BJP has awarded party ticket to Kanad Purkayastha, son of veteran leader and former MP Kabindra Purkayastha, for one of the two Rajya Sabha seats from Assam which will go to polls on June 19.
Two Rajya Sabha seats from Assam will fall vacant with the terms of Mission Ranjan Das (BJP) and Birendra Prasad Baishya (AGP) ending on June 14.
The BJP had left the other seat to ally AGP.
Results will be declared on the same day, i.e, June 19.
The biennial elections will be held as the terms of eight members of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha), representing Tamil Nadu and Assam, will expire between June and July, the poll panel had earlier said in an official statement.
The last date for filing nominations is June 9. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on June 10, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 12.
