Rainfall-triggered landslide cuts off NH-2 stretch in Nagaland

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: Incessant rainfall in Nagaland has triggered landslides severely affecting movement through the NH-2 in Mokokchung district.

Transportation of essential commodities to districts like Tuensang, Longleng and Zunheboto has been hit.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Public Works department is racing against time to ensure that the highway remains accessible.

PWD Executive Engineer NH Chubatoshi informed that this stretch is the most important road and even during the slightest rain the road gets blocked.

“With much difficulty the department has been working day in and out clearing the roads with no machineries to ensure that vehicles continue to ply, while the department is also keeping two machineries on standby for any kind of eventualities,” said an PWD engineer.

He added,“This is the most important road and through this road, there is no other connecting road. So, even during this time when the whole nation is fighting against COVID-19, we have been working day and night with much difficulties but somehow we could keep the vehicles ply and keep it connected.”
